Cone, Cylinder, Square

 

At this point I've run through the three grand forms.  Did some cone, cylinder and square ones.

I'm going to run through them again until the wood is gone and then move onto phase 2.

Square.

Lots of photos, few words.  

Square if you trace a line around the four outside points of these next two.

Without a lightbulb(s) in yet, I'm just using the sun.  Holding it with my hand to manipulate it to reveal itself best I could without an internal light source.

Hopefully you can see the block print is on the inside, only showing itself when light shines through.

Veneers were sliced with this beautiful saw.

Inside cuts made on this, a Chevalet.  

Above was how I sketched it but decided to add another element in the center.

The Big Three

 I'll come back to the cylindrical forms, and I may remake this one.  I learned quite a bit from it and want to do a slightly different take on this.  If I have enough material at the end.

Conical,  Cylindrical and now moving onto Square forms.  Square as in right angle squares.

Two of these.

One on the bottom, one on top.

 

They were joined with this long very delicate strip.

I may have cracked the magnet code.  By putting tape on the magnets and forming little handles I can fulcrum them off in a pretty controlled manner.  The problem is the wood is so thin that it doesn't take much movement before it cracks.

 

Let's see what I can make with this. ll

 Been awhile since I've worked in my shop.  Been working with my brother in his shop, in a small town in Virginia, on a project of his.  That was special.

But here's what's happened so far.  Needed to make some things to help me make other things.

Unusual look for me.  Usually the insides are clean when I open them up to change a blade.

The way the blade was going through the Doug Fir created thread rather than dust.

Made a vertical magnetic clamp with controlled release of pull off.

Last time I clamped with magnets I had a difficult time removing the clamp without breaking the veneer.

With the wingnuts I can back off the pressure in a controlled manner.

Cut wood

 

Flat gluing is easier.

Hard to fathom how to make something without needing tools from the photography side.

The structure used to suspend is cut to fit angle and diameter.  This way is much easier than tilting the table.

There are four pieces here.  They've been glued into two separate arcs.

There was a whole bunch of on the fly thinking on how to glue without breaking it.  I almost had to invert the glue up back onto itself.  I used the paper at top to work out the sequence.

Damn suggestive, ain't it?

Is not black and white not the best?

Phase 3 of section 1.   So far.  Need to switch to cylindrical forms now.  And that's where the round form at the top comes into it.
